Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock, 1954)
November 15th, 2017
Alien 3 (David Fincher, 1992)

Considered a critical failure and a commercial flop on its initial release 25 years ago, Alien 3 is often cited as the worse installment of the initial Xenomorph trilogy. Certainly not without its faults, we'll reexamine Alien 3 with an eye towards the thematics of body, mind, and soul intertwined with the first three movies, and consider how this trilogy has aged in the context of Hollywood's storytelling playbook today.

Cinema Lab is pleased to host Anthony Griffin, Grand Rapids based filmmaker and genre movie expert to lead the discussion as we gain a deeper appreciation for one of the twentieth century's most compelling achievements in genre cinema.

December 13th, 2017
Rashomon (Akira Kurosawa, 1950)

Not only is Rashomon (1950) one of Akira Kurosawa's finest films visually, but the mystery and puzzle surrounding the story makes it particularly memorable. On December 13th, Cinema Lab will host a screening of this must-see film, and have a discussion afterwards about False Memory, and try to debate the "whodunnit" aspect of the film.
